Egalitarian Halakhic Judaism

The Masorti Movement-Masorti Israel

The Masorti Movement is a leading force in shaping a pluralistic, democratic, Zionist, halakhic, and egalitarian Judaism in Israel. For over 45 years, Masorti has embraced Conservative Judaism’s balanced approach to tradition and change—integrating time-honored practices with contemporary scholarship, Jewish living, democratic ideals, modern values, and a deep commitment to Zionism.

With nearly 100 kehillot and minyanim (congregations and prayer groups) across Israel, the Masorti Movement nurtures vibrant Jewish communities. It also encompasses the NOAM youth movement, diverse educational initiatives, and halakhic, egalitarian religious services accessible to the broader public.

Masorti provides a welcoming spiritual home for thousands of Israelis seeking a meaningful Jewish life rooted in faith, tradition, and community. Through its programs and affiliates, Masorti connects individuals to Jewish calendar celebrations, life cycle ceremonies, and communal events, while actively strengthening Jewish pluralism in Israel’s public sphere.

The Masorti/Conservative movement originated in 19th-century Europe and developed in the United States. In Israel, it began with just two congregations—Emet V’Emunah in Jerusalem (founded in 1936) and Moriah in Haifa (established in 1955). Today, Masorti has grown into a nationwide network of nearly 100 kehillot and minyanim, serving both urban and rural communities. It offers a vital middle ground for those seeking a Judaism that is both modern and rooted in tradition.

The Masorti Foundation

The Masorti Foundation for Conservative Judaism in Israel is a U.S.-based nonprofit dedicated to helping Israelis build a Judaism that honors tradition and observance while adapting to modern Israeli life. Based in New York City, the Foundation champions a pluralistic, egalitarian, and democratic Israel by providing critical support to the Masorti Movement in Israel.

Working in close partnership with Masorti Israel, the Foundation tirelessly advocates for equal recognition of all Jews by the Israeli government—regardless of their denominational affiliation, level of observance, or conversion process. The Foundation takes pride in supporting Masorti Israel’s transformative work, which is driving meaningful societal change, essential for the future of Judaism in Israel and beyond.

Through education, advocacy, dialogue, and financial support, the Masorti Foundation empowers Conservative Jews in the United States to actively engage in this historic and vital mission. Together, we enrich each other’s lives, offer mutual support, and unite our voices as one—the voice of Klal Yisrael (the collective Jewish community).
